“This Seattle group combine hard-edged punk with hooky pop melodies and the heaviness of classic grunge.” — Bandcamp (New & Notable)
Dog is Calling EP out now
Sun Spots is a band from the Pacific Northwest that plays loud, catchy, punk-adjacent alt-rock. They either write pop songs for hardcore fans or hardcore songs for pop fans, depending on your perspective. Following a 2022 EP and a handful of singles, the band is released their sophomore EP, Dog is Calling, on March 13th via independent Seattle label Den Tapes.
Featuring members of a number of essential PNW punk and hardcore acts — including Criminal Code, Nudes, and Bricklayer — Sun Spots brings together the Big Muff crunch of classic grunge with the bright, DIY sound of bands like Superchunk and many of their Merge labelmates. Their heavy, uptempo, and earnest rock songs are made for blasting with the volume turned all the way up.
Engineered and mixed in Seattle by Cameron Heck and mastered by Greg Obis (MJ Lenderman, Wishy, Tim Heidecker), Dog is Calling has earned praise from KEXP, The Line of Best Fit, and more.
